Summary
Bill C-273, also known as "An Act to amend the Criminal Code (Corinne’s Quest and the protection of children)," aims to change the Criminal Code of Canada. The main goal of the bill is to remove Section 43 from the Criminal Code. Section 43 is a rule that allows parents or guardians to use force to correct a child if certain rules are followed. This bill seeks to completely get rid of that rule.
The bill was sponsored by Mr. Julian. It was considered during the 44th Parliament, specifically during the first session. The bill was reprinted with changes made by the Standing Committee on Justice and Human Rights on May 8, 2024. These changes were made for the House of Commons to use during the Report Stage.
If the bill becomes law, it will start 30 days after it gets approval from the Crown.

Bill C-273 deals directly with the Criminal Code. It plans to remove Section 43, which currently allows for the use of force when correcting a child under certain conditions. By repealing this section, the bill changes what is legally permissible in interactions between adults and children.
