Summary

The Canadian Sustainable Jobs Act aims to help Canada's economy grow while creating jobs that are good for the environment. It focuses on moving to a "net-zero economy," which means reducing greenhouse gas emissions as much as possible. The Act wants to make sure this change is fair for workers and communities.

To achieve this, the Act creates a plan with clear steps. It sets up a Sustainable Jobs Partnership Council. This council will give advice to the government on how to create these sustainable jobs and support workers during the change. The council includes people from different backgrounds, like trade unions, Indigenous groups, and industries.

The Act also requires the government to create Sustainable Jobs Action Plans. These plans will be updated every five years and will explain how the government will help the economy grow, create sustainable jobs, and support workers. The plans will also look at how different groups are affected and try to make sure everyone has a fair chance. The Act establishes a Sustainable Jobs Secretariat to support the plan.

Overall, the Act is about making sure Canada's economy is both strong and good for the environment, while also supporting workers and communities during the shift to a cleaner economy. The Act will be reviewed every 10 years to see if it is working well.
