Summary
This bill, known as Appropriation Act No. 2, 2023-24, is about giving the government money to pay for things. It allows the government to spend up to $108,700,157,669 for the year ending March 31, 2024. This money is for expenses of the federal government that haven't already been paid for.
The bill says where the money can come from. It takes $103,446,347,749 from money that was already suggested in the Main Estimates for the year. It takes away the money that was already given in another bill, Appropriation Act No. 1, 2023-24. It also takes $5,253,809,920 from other suggested money in the Estimates, taking away what was already given in the other bill.
The bill explains that the money can only be used for what it is meant for. It also says that the things listed in Schedules 1 and 2 are considered to have started on April 1, 2023. The bill also allows for changes to be made to the accounts of Canada after the end of the year, but before the Public Accounts are presented in Parliament.
Schedule 1 has a list of departments and organizations, and how much money each one is getting. Schedule 2 has a list of other things that the money can be used for, and says that this money can be used until March 31, 2025, as long as it is used in the right order. Any money that is left over will be gone at the end of the year after March 31, 2024.
