Summary
Bill S-245 aims to amend the Citizenship Act to allow certain people who lost their Canadian citizenship to get it back.
The bill changes some rules about who is a Canadian citizen. It focuses on people who were born outside of Canada. It affects those who, before April 17, 2009, applied to keep their citizenship but were not approved. It also considers those who were born outside Canada after February 14, 1977, and would be citizens if they had applied to keep their citizenship before that date.
Additionally, the bill specifies that subsection (3) of the Citizenship Act does not apply to people who were citizens on June 11, 2015.
Finally, the bill modifies a section regarding who is a citizen under paragraphs 3(1)(f), (g), or (g.1) of the Citizenship Act.
